Housing
This service is responsible for assisting the target group in
the location, acquisitions, and maintaining rental accommodations.
This is done through a variety of means including the units
owned by the Friendship Centre Housing Corporation.
Referrals
This service is responsible to act out as community advocate
for the membership.
Education
a) Adult Education - To provide Grades 9 through 12
to Aboriginal clients that have dropped out or students who
do not fit in the regular school system. This program delivers
Manitoba Education and Training Mature Student/Regular High
School Diploma.
b) School Mentor - A program to work with "at
risk" students beyond the typical school day to assist
them in completing assignments, encourage positive school behaviours
and demonstrate a positive role model.
Recreation
This service is responsible to coordinate, facilitate and supervise
all recreational and sports programming and ensures that activities
of general interest in that area are properly supervised.
Partners for Careers
A job placement service run for and by Aboriginal Professionals
Economic Development
This program is in partnership with Manitoba Association of
Friendship Centres to support the development and implementation
of labour market development programs that address the special
economic development and human resource development needs of
Aboriginal people
Outreach
The objective of this program is to maximize the employability
and the employment of Native people. This is accomplished by
ensuring the clients are informed of the resources for training
and that education be available to them.
Aboriginal Head Start Program
There are currently two Head Start Centres:
Abinoje in Duck Bay and Children for
the future in Swan River. To provide participation
for all Aboriginal children under the age of 5 yrs to obtain
cultural life skills and learning preparations
Parent Child Program
A community based program that provides "early intervention"
programs and services to parents and children aged 6-12 years.
