Parent / Child Centred Initiative
Supports community based, accessible, culturally relevant and supportive programs and services for Families and their Children ages 6-12 through activities that address Positive Parenting, Nutrition & Physical Health, Learning & Literacy, and Community Capacity-Building. Weekend Fun - coordinated through the Community Youth Resource Centre from September to May offers afternoons filled with arts & crafts, recreation and social activities and nutrition. Awasis Tipiskaw is a free Drop-In Recreation program that takes place on Thursday evenings at the Ruth Betts School gymnasium. Family Drop-In provides an evening filled with games, crafts, social opportunities and the occasional speaker. Transportation and a light snack are provided. Family Activity Nights - provides an opportunity to spend quality time together outside the home. Activities include swimming, bowling or a scheduled community event.

The Goal of
the Parent / Child Centred Initiative is to provide community based, accessible,
culturally relevant and supportive programs and services to Families with
Children ages 6-12 through activities to address Physical and Emotional
Health, Safety and Security, Successful Learning, Social Engagement and
Responsibility.
Weekend Fun – Coordinated from the Community Youth
Resource Centre, Saturday and Sunday afternoons, from 1-3:30 pm. Transportation
is available. Weekend Fun is geared towards Families and their Children
who are between the ages of 6-12 years old. Programming is oriented towards
family, nutrition, literacy, and capacity building.
Friendship Playgroup - Playgroup is open to families
of children ages 0-12. Families enjoy a social evening along with a cooking
circle, crafts and activities for the children. There is no cost and transportation
is provided.
Awasis Tipiskaw – The Awasis Tipiskaw program is
well underway and as busy as ever. The free Drop-In Recreation program
takes place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the Ruth Betts School
Gym and Wednesday evenings at the Denare Beach Denare Plex. It is open
to all Children ages 6-12 years old.
Camp Moochikun - Camp Moochikun (Having Fun) is a Summer
Day Camp program for Children aged 4-11.
Fiddle
Lessons -
Fiddle lessons are located in the Aboriginal Headstart Centre, for Metis
participants in grades four to six and who live in Manitoba, they are
available on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. and on Saturdays
at noon.
Children’s Halloween & Christmas Parties –
The Centre hosts Halloween & Christmas parties for Children to enjoy.
Witches and pumpkins will be stopping by! Santa will be stopping by for
a visit
And there will be snacks and games for everyone!
